I get an idea and I write it and that's never going to change, but I'm curious (and counting down the minutes until David's plane lands; he's been away since last Thursday in England and France; too long.) Plus; poll. Polls are cool.

ETA There is no option to say you don't like any of them. I forgot that box. I'm sure there's a deep and meaningful reason why.

Yis.

TICKY BOX TIME!

So if, say, hypothetically, theoretically, someone feeling VERY SICK WITH A NASTY COLD who has LOST ELEVEN POUNDS AND WEIGHS LESS THAN SHE HAS IN A DECADE, might just possibly have bought a 500ml tub of Haagen-Daz sticky toffee pudding ice cream (total calories in the tub 1240, fat 76 grams (I'm going pale just typing that; my God, does it even WEIGH 76 grams?)) what is the best way to control the damage?

[Poll #1143255]

I should mention that it is orgasmically delicious, OMG.

Last night, after much work, I tracked down a very old story I'd seen a reference to that sounded interesting, only to find the webpage had the stories on a really distracting, patterned background. Nothing daunted, I cut and pasted into Word and settled back to read with a happy sigh.

Then I saw that the author used 'cumming' and winced, jolted out of the story completely.

The devil made me do it. I have no excuse for what happened next but it was there, in Word, and the find/replace called out to me, so I changed them all, and while I was at it, went through and gave it a quick and dirty betaing, eliminating any of my personal cannot stands like repeated use of 'the older man' and fixing some typos. Tiny stuff; nothing major.

Then I read it in one smooth, uninterrupted session and enjoyed it very much indeed.

I'll never share this copy with anyone. I'd never tell the author I did it (I'm not even going to say what fandom it is; I read in four or five, so it's a wide field). But I still felt a twinge of guilt because it wasn't up to me to change her words. Moving it to Word so I could read it without squinting; that I have no guilt over, but the editing, hmm...

So tell me; have you ever done this? How do you view it? Mortal sin or gentle hand slap required?

ETA. For the record, I'm perfectly fine with anyone doing this to one of my fics as long as they didn't do anything with it/share it, but kept it on their own computer to read. I'm possessive/protective of my stories in some ways, but this, no; edit them all you want if it means you enjoy them more.

[livejournal.com profile] cinderlily might be doing a podfic of one of my TS fics which is extremely cool (and yet I know I'll blush hotly when I listen to it and be unable to stop). She asked an excellent question; how to say my last name. In all my married life, no telesales person has ever got it right but I've blithely assumed all of you were saying it right in your heads because, well, you KNOW me.

Which is so, so silly of me.

It rhymes (kinda) with 'rabbit'. Say it the same way but change a few letters.

So go on; tell me:

David and I own no cell phones. We're pondering one but good grief. COMPLICATED. So, just out of curiosity...

Over on one of the lists, the subject of 'fic' came up; the idea being that referring to someone's work that way was a little demeaning to it; a little insulting; implying it was of less value than an original story. I said that I didn't think many people who wrote fan fiction felt that way; it was a commonly accepted term for it, and then realised I was making a huge assumption and could well be totally wrong, so... POLL! :-)

Because I'm curious:

It's been ages since I did a poll. Ages. So I decided to do one about the four men of my two favourite pairings.

The deep, burning to be answered, question is about their points of appeal, the ones that get rhapsodised over in fic and quite right too, because, let's face it, they're all areas of outstanding natural beauty.

So pick a bit. Which one does it for you to the extent that you'd happily support a ficathon just for that body part?

I threw in an accessory for each man, too.

And if I didn't include your favourite bit spank me tell me in a comment.

ETA And whichever bit gets most votes, I will write a drabble for; should be fun! I'll take the results at, umm, 9.00 a.m. tomorrow.

Just out of curiosity (and because I like to do a poll now and then, just because I can).

I was discussing drabbles with [livejournal.com profile] paian earlier. I love them, but I've known for a long time that not everyone shares the drabble love and so - poll! Pointless poll, maybe, but I'm bored. And curious. Yes, I can be both; I multi-task all the time. Right now I'm typing AND breathing and I may have just yawned too, so there you go.

This isn't wholly serious (I have a serious discussion and it annoys people and you know me, I'm the peaceful type so I won't do that ever again. Promise ::looks sincere and crosses fingers surreptitiously::), but it's something that I've been meaning to ask for ages, and if I can't ask all of you, who can I ask?

In fics, lube is usually right there. Stretch out a hand and it's slick and slippery time about two seconds later. Fine, I get that it's an accepted convention in smut fics that lube is all around - do it myself - but what puzzles me is when a man who hasn't got laid in like for ever has it, and the explanation is that they used it when they were masturbating.

I've never known a man who did that/thought it was an improvement. As my sample size is in single figures, I thought I'd get my ignorance enlightened rather than assume that because none of the men I've had sex with used it like that, few do.

(And yes, I get that it's a handy thing to have in the house for many reasons - I'm not that sheltered ::g:: but I'm just talking about this one application).
