Don't like the gray strip with teeny writing across the top of my LJ.

Why does LJ keep CHANGING things when there's no need? Ain't broke, don't fix it.

I went to yoga last night. This class has never had many people there, usually three or four of us, but a traffic accident that must have delayed people meant that it was just me. I asked the instructor, who's very nice, if she wanted to just forget it, but she said no, I'd made the effort to come and I was getting my session, plus she gets paid for giving the class anyway. She told me that a private yoga lesson is $75 (I pay around $10 a session), so look on it as a gift :-)

It was a little odd being the focus of attention; no way to slacken off when her gaze was elsewhere, heh, but she said at the end that I was flexible and strong which surprised me (pipe-stem arms, can't put my forehead on my knees, 47 now and a bit of a tummy I'm going to start working on when Mum goes home and we stop having Timmies donuts everyday, heh.)

I do love yoga and I wish I'd started earlier. It's an oasis in the week.

I'm totally blocked on fic. Just don't feel any urge to work on a WiP or start something new. I do have an idea for an original short I might work on before starting the new book with Alexa at the end of the month. I'm finding things a bit overwhelming in fandom. So much seems to be going on and it's almost hard work keeping up with it all. So very easy to just gradually drift into not doing stuff and lurking.

The hammock is up and soooo relaxing. I lay in it before yoga with a big cushion and a book and just drifted, staring at trees and sky. I'll take a photo next time it's up but it's put away now; dull, cool and thunderstorms and rain forecast.

This page here is a chance to sign up (totally free, no forms to fill out) for a fifteen minute workout vid emailed to you each day starting Jan 10th to begin the New Year doing a little yoga each day if you're like me and leave each class swearing to do a little bit daily and never do.

It's run by The Yoga Journal and there're also 30 and 45 minute ones but I know me and I'd never do them.

Anyway, just passing it on in case it's of use.

We just got back from a BBQ with friends, one of whom is the friend I do yoga with. She had a cool new watch on, which I admired. I found out it was $225 which put it way outside my price range, but it's adorable and sort of yoga related.

They come in all these different colors and they have something in them that makes your body resonate at the same frequency as the earth or something like that (her husband and David work together and as engineers were incredibly skeptical, heh)

I just think they look cool. I love the golden pear (she's got the lime one and is saving up for the golden pear) and the plum.

She'd also bought a new yoga book that I greeted with cries of squeefulness. Hilarious.

Barbar's Yoga for Elephants

I now see why I struggle with some poses. I have no trunk. All is clear to me.

I went to a chakra workshop last night, run by the lady who does my yoga class. We had a session first, working through the elements in order (two yoga sessions in 48 hours! My body was in shock) and then we all just gathered round and she talked to us. It went on untul 11.15 at night. I think that's the latest I've been out in ages.

We did a questionnaire at the end to see roughly which chakras were balanced, blocked, too open.

My results were like this (the first chakra is the one at the base of your spine, the seventh the one on the crown of your head)
0-7 balanced
7-14 blocked
14-21 too open

The overlap is a little confusing but she said not to get too hung up on the numbers.

Chakra 1 10 blocked
Chakra 2 5 balanced
Chakra 3 12 blocked
Chakra 4 1 balanced
Chakra 5 9 blocked
Chakra 6 12 blocked
Chakra 7 18 too open

Looks like I have work to do. From what I gathered (we only scratched the surface) the second chakra is about creativity and sexuality and I'm fine there, which is good to know :-)

I'm a little sceptical about things like gems helping to balance your chakras but less so about oils. I guess it's because you can smell an oil and that's a concrete thing yet I do get a sense of comfort or exhilaration from some colors.

Hmm. Anyway, it was interesting and thought provoking. I'm so glad I took up yoga last September. It's really been a positive, affirming part of my life these past months.
